The point I’m trying to make is any attention my stuttering PlayStation or Xbox would have received has all gone to my PC-centric lifestyle. I'm also forever drawn to arena shooters or anything with well balanced gunplay. I have tried to grow out of them. I don't think I can. Halo was a fun distraction, perfectly paced for the console generation it once dominated. For whatever reason, Overwatch still scratches the shooter itch better than anything before it or since. I‘ve made peace with the fact that Blizzard is just really good at making a particular type of crack for a particular player type. It was only a matter of time before I became another victim of their entrapment formula.
I can't quit you
I am also a victim of the YouTube algorithm. It convinced me that my mouse needed to be lighter. That my mousepad should be made of glass. That a 280hz OLED was not a luxury but a baseline requirement for a serious person. None of this is true and I knew that. Yet some quiet, stupid part of me wanted it to be.
It might just be placebo, but after mouse-related upgrades I found my aim improved. Not a lot, but I feel more confident today sliding my small, lightweight pew-pew puck around my giant desk.
Thy Flesh is Weak
My overall read of a fight, my positioning, my ability to stay calm when everything goes sideways in the last twenty seconds of a game? Not so much. I am exactly as tilted as I was $626.43 ago. The hardware fixed the easy problem and left the actual one completely untouched, which is the most honest thing the hardware has ever done for me.
I leaned in.
What was the algorithm too afraid to show me? It wanted me to see mice and monitors because those brought in affiliate bucks. But I knew there was a whole dark side of questionable gear beyond those surface level upgrades.
