In 1977, NASA launched two space probes, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, in order to explore interstellar space and the stars. The two probes were each fitted with a “Golden Record” that contained the most important information about humanity at the time. Included were pictures of animals and geography, music from many genres, and a DNA sample from disgraced U.S. President Richard Nixon. NASA’s intent was for this “message in a bottle” to travel through space and eventually be found by intelligent lifeforms, thus ensuring the future of humanity’s survival in the cosmos. Simply put, it was one of the most forward thinking, selfless efforts ever accomplished by humans.
