I think we've all just accepted that our digital lives belong to about three companies. Emails, videos, files, all sitting on someone else's hardware.
Personally, it's getting a bit tiring and expensive.

MeTube: Cat videos on the go
YouTube Premium is a hell of a drug, once you have it becomes pretty hard to quit. Without it, the ads become the equivalent of chinese water torture – a slow drip of unskippable crap that ensures you'll rat-out your entire platoon. It's also getting pretty damn expensive. You can get around the ads pretty easythese days. Taking a downloaded, offline-friendly collection of videos with you is a slightly tougher nut to swallow depending on your platform of choice.

I'm currently on my way to nice, much needed cruise and from what I've heard, the wifi expenses can really make a kalimotxo hangover that much worse. So, to ensure I can watch/listen to Rock N Roll Jesus ad free next to the toilet, I've turned to MeTube.
MeTube is a clean web interface for yt-dlp (the gold standard for downloading web video). Paste a link, it downloads, it saves to your own storage. No command line required every single time you want a clip. Recently, I did have to upload my cookies which I borrowed from the local public library. This was to re-enable downloads but so far that's been the only headache.
The verdict: Low-hanging fruit. Simple, works, and gives you a permanent library that no algorithm can delete.
